Inventory Handoff
H1
FUNCTION & SCREEN
OVERVIEW
The Inventory Handoff function is used to create a "snapshot" of the steel
inventory at an intransit to an Outside Processor (OP) site. The function
is very simple. The OP user selects the Steel Producer (SP)
(Company or Plant) using a drop down box and clicks the "Create"
button. The system scans the inventory database, finds the items, and sends an
EDI transaction to the SP. Once completed, the system
writes a message on the screen to tell the user for which plants the
Handoff was generated. The SP uses the information from the EDI
transaction to double check his records so that any differences can be
resolved.
BEFORE YOU START
Know When: When to
do the Inventory Handoff mostly depends on the SP's
requirements. SP's may require them weekly, monthly or just
occasionally. The SteelPartner.com system does not know
when the SP wants a handoff. The OP must take
responsibility for doing them.
Be Aware of Cuttoff
Times: The normal practice is for the OP
to enter activity (material receiving, production reporting,
shipments, etc) as it happens. If data entry is kept
up to date, then when its time to do a handoff, everything
should be in order. Just do it. However, if data entry is
done sporadically, say the following morning, then the OP user
must make sure that everything is "caught up" before the handoff
is done.
SCREEN OPTIONS
Corporate Handoff: The corporate handoff is really just a set of plant handoffs
for all the plants of that corporation. The user
selects the corporation for handoff
from the drop down box, and clicks the "Create" button. If
there is no inventory to report for one of the plants, it doesn't
matter. The system message will show no items found, and no EDI will
be sent.
Plant Handoff: The user selects a
specific plant from the drop down box and clicks the "Create" button to send a handoff.
